Domestic Partnerships Become Law in Nevada!

This Afternoon, the Nevada Assembly voted to over ride Governor Gibbon's veto of SB 283, establishing domestic partnerships in the State of Nevada.

This is a tremendous victory.  This bill allows those couples who choose to register as domestic partners nearly all the same rights and benefits afforded to spouses under state law.

The broad support and passage of this bill shows that equal rights and relationship recognition should not be a partisan issue.

HRC would like to extend a special thank you to Senator David Parks, who sponsored this bill and saw it thru the entire legislative process.  Senator Parks is a hero for the LGBT community of Nevada.

HRC would also like to thank the many organizations, corporations, and individuals who made the passage of SB 283 such a priority.  This bill would not have passed without such a broad coalition of support.

The creation of SB 283 will strengthen Nevada families and enhance Nevada's image on the national stage as a fair minded and progressive state.
